ABSTRACT

Casuarina equisetifolia afford to growth in coastal area, which has high salinity, low water content, high porosity and low nutrient. Casuarina equisetifolia symbiotic with Arbuscular-Vesicles mycorrhizae fungi (VA) that helps providing P elements from the soil to plant needs. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the spores and the effect of organic mulch such as straw and the Casuarina equisetifolia in increasing uptake of P elements due to inoculation of mycorrhizae.

The Research was conducted in the Laboratory Faculty of Forestry Gadjah Mada University. The design used was completely randomized block design (RCBD). Plants were inoculated spore form mycorrhizae (the inoculums originating from Kebumen, Samas and Pandan Simo coastal area) and mulching (no mulch, straw mulch, litter mulch).  The parameters observed after the age of 5 months of the seedling harvest were high, diameter, canopy dry weight, root dry weight, total dry weight, root length, infection hyphae, the amount of P in the plants and the amount of P in the media.

The results showed that inoculum spores originating from coastal Pandan Simo near shoreline capable to increase diameter growth  3.47%, weight root dry  2.25%, dry weight total  2.22% and infection hyphae 800%. The best inoculum was on inoculum spores originating from Samas coastal that resulting the highest P total level at the tissue 0.07% and the grade of the highest P available at sand media  4.68 ppm. Granting mycorrhizae could improved  resilience of the Casuarina equisetifolia at seedling  levels in age of 5 months at condition sand media which alkalis, so growth better. Granting straw mulch could increased diameter growth 6.48%, weight root dry 26.7%, infection hyphae 15.34%, root length  12.34%, and increased P within sand media 3.5% . The P uptake total in tissue granting mulch straw and litter Casuarina equisetifolia had not yet improved the P uptake.

Keywords : Casuarina equisetifolia, inoculation of mycorrhizae, mulching.
